Possible Causes
Heating element shorted to chassis, Damaged mains cable, Moisture in insulation or elements, Faulty mains filter (EMI filter) shorting to earth
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Disconnect the oven and only work with power isolated. If unsure, contact a qualified electrician.
- Visual inspection: Remove rear and top covers. Look for burnt wiring, melted insulation, or signs of arcing.
- Insulation test (if available): Using an insulation tester (megger), check resistance between each element terminal and chassis. Low resistance indicates a leakage fault.
- Isolate elements: Disconnect one element at a time and try powering the oven (with extreme caution). If the breaker no longer trips with a particular element disconnected, that element is likely faulty.
- Check mains cable and filter: Inspect the mains cable for cuts or compression. Test the EMI filter for shorts between live/neutral and earth.
- Replace faulty component: Install new Severin heating elements, mains cable, or EMI filter as required. Ensure proper earthing.
- Final safety test: After repair, have the installation tested for insulation resistance and earth continuity by a qualified person.
