Possible Causes
Failed electronic control board (EOC), corrupted control firmware, shorted keypad causing control error, power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing internal components.
- Reset control: Switch off the breaker for 10 minutes to fully discharge the control. Restore power and test. If F1 returns immediately, suspect the control board.
- Check keypad behavior: If some buttons do not respond or trigger F1 when pressed, the keypad may be shorting the control. Inspect the keypad ribbon cable for damage and reseat it.
- Inspect control board: Remove the top/front panel to access the EOC. Look for burnt components, darkened areas, or swollen capacitors. Any visible damage indicates replacement is required.
- Surge protection: If F1 appeared after a power outage or lightning, the board may be surge-damaged. Replacement is the only reliable fix.
- Replace EOC: If keypad is good and F1 persists, replace the electronic control board with the Sharp-specified part number for your model.
