Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor, failed temperature sensor wiring harness, stuck closed bake relay on control board, cooling fan not operating causing overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and allow the oven to cool completely before working on it.

  • Check for obvious overheating: If the oven interior is extremely hot or has a burning smell, leave the door open to cool and do not use until inspected.
  • Test oven temperature sensor: Locate the sensor probe inside the oven (usually rear wall). With power off, remove the rear cover and disconnect the sensor connector. Measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature; typical Sharp sensors are ~1080Ω at 25°C (77°F). If reading is far off or open/shorted, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the probe to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Check cooling fan: On models with a cavity cooling fan, verify the fan runs when the oven heats. If not, test the fan motor and fan relay on the control board.
  • Control board relays: If the sensor is good but the oven continues to overheat or F2 persists, the bake relay on the EOC may be stuck closed. Replace the electronic control board.
