Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, sensor not fully seated in cavity, stuck closed heating relay on control board, failed thermostat on older mechanical models
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and allow the oven to cool completely before inspection.
- Check sensor mounting: Ensure the temperature sensor probe is firmly mounted and not hanging loose inside the cavity.
- Test sensor resistance: At room temperature, measure sensor resistance and compare to Sharp specs. Replace if reading is too low (indicating a shorted sensor).
- Observe heating behavior: If the elements stay on continuously without cycling off, the control relay may be stuck. The control board will need replacement.
- Thermostat (mechanical models): On knob-controlled Sharp ovens, test and replace the mechanical thermostat if it does not open at the correct temperature.
