Possible Causes
Open-circuit NTC temperature sensor, Shorted NTC sensor, Damaged wiring harness between NTC and main control module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate the oven from mains power before removing any panels.
- Power reset: Turn off power for 5 minutes, then retry. If E002 reappears quickly, proceed with checks.
- Locate the NTC sensor: On most Siemens ovens, the cavity temperature sensor is a small metal probe at the rear or top of the oven interior, secured with 1–2 screws.
- Visual inspection: Remove the inner back panel if needed. Check the sensor wiring for burns, cuts, or loose connectors where it passes through the rear wall to the control module.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor plug and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, Siemens NTC sensors are typically in the tens of kΩ range (e.g. ~50 kΩ at 25°C; check service data if available). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates a fault.
- Check harness: If the sensor tests OK, inspect and wiggle the harness from sensor to control board while measuring continuity to detect intermittent breaks.
- Replace if faulty: Fit a genuine Siemens cavity temperature sensor and ensure the grommet/seal is correctly seated to prevent heat leakage.
