Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and electrical power before servicing. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and do not operate electrical switches; contact your gas supplier.
- Step 1 – Verify gas supply: Ensure the gas shutoff valve behind the range is fully open and other gas appliances are working.
- Step 2 – Observe igniter: With power on and gas on, start a bake cycle and look through the oven window. The igniter should glow orange within 30–60 seconds. If it does not glow, or glows but the burner never lights, continue.
- Step 3 – Inspect igniter: Turn power and gas off. Remove the oven bottom panel to access the bake burner and igniter. Check for cracks or damage to the igniter.
- Step 4 – Test igniter resistance: Disconnect the igniter and measure resistance. A very high or infinite reading indicates a failed igniter that must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Gas valve check (advanced): If a new igniter glows but the burner does not light, the gas safety valve may be defective. This test involves live gas and should be performed by a qualified technician.
Warning: Never attempt to manually light the oven burner with a match or lighter on electronic ignition models.
