Possible Causes
Failed broil igniter, Faulty broil gas valve, Blocked broil burner ports, Loose igniter wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before servicing. If you detect a strong gas odor, leave the area and contact your gas provider.
- Step 1 – Check broil operation: Start a broil cycle and observe the broil igniter through the oven door. If it does not glow or the burner does not light, proceed.
- Step 2 – Access broil igniter: Turn off power and gas. Remove the oven racks and broil shield to access the broil burner and igniter.
- Step 3 – Inspect igniter and burner: Look for cracks in the igniter and heavy debris blocking the burner ports. Clean the burner with a soft brush if clogged.
- Step 4 – Test igniter: Disconnect the igniter and measure resistance. Replace if open or significantly out of specification.
- Step 5 – Wiring and valve: Check igniter wiring for secure connections. If a new igniter glows but the burner does not light, the broil gas valve or control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a technician.
Note: Use only OEM igniters; generic parts may not draw the correct current to open the gas valve.
