Possible Causes
Cracked plastic knobs, worn knob splines, stiff thermostat or selector shaft, contamination behind knobs
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the oven is off and cool before working on the control panel.
- Remove knobs: Pull the knobs straight off the shafts. Clean the area behind them to remove grease and debris.
- Inspect knobs: Check for cracks or worn splines. Replace any damaged knobs with genuine Smeg replacements.
- Check shaft movement: Turn the bare shafts of the thermostat and selector. If they are very stiff, the internal component may be failing and should be replaced.
- Reinstall knobs: Align the flat or keyed section correctly and push firmly into place.
