Possible Causes
Failed lower oven temperature sensor, Loose or damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector at rear of cavity, Defective main control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Turn off power at the service panel before servicing. Do not work on the oven while it is connected to power.
- Confirm which cavity: On double ovens, E02 typically refers to the lower cavity sensor. Verify that the lower oven is the one not heating correctly.
- Locate the lower sensor: Open the lower oven door and find the sensor probe on the rear wall. Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor out to access the connector.
- Inspect and reseat: Check the connector for discoloration, melting, or loose fit. Reseat the connector firmly. If the wire insulation is cracked or burned, the harness should be replaced.
- Test resistance: With power still off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Expect approximately 1080 Ω at room temperature. If the reading is open, shorted, or significantly off, replace the lower oven temperature sensor.
- Check harness to control: Remove the control panel or top trim to access the main control board. Follow the sensor wires to the board and ensure the connector is fully seated and not heat-damaged.
- Control board evaluation: If the sensor and wiring are good but E02 persists, the lower oven sensor circuit on the control board is likely defective. Replacement of the control board is recommended and may require a professional technician.
