Possible Causes
Failed convection fan motor, Obstructed convection fan blade, Loose or damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty main control board fan relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power at the breaker. Internal components may have sharp edges and may still be hot after use.
- Check fan operation: Before shutting off power, start a convection bake cycle and listen for the fan. If it hums, squeals, or does not run, note the behavior.
- Access convection fan: Remove the oven racks and the rear interior panel (held by screws) to expose the convection fan blade and cover. Inspect for food debris or warped metal rubbing the blade.
- Spin test: With power off, spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
- Check wiring: From inside or from the rear of the oven (depending on model), inspect the fan motor wiring and connector. Reseat the connector and look for heat damage.
- Replace motor: If the motor is seized or open (no continuity), replace the convection fan motor assembly with the correct Sub-Zero part.
- Control board: If the motor and wiring are good but the fan never receives power, the convection fan relay on the control board may be defective and require board replacement.
