Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wires shorted to chassis, Melted sensor harness insulation, Moisture intrusion in sensor connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing any panels or touching wiring.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Locate the oven temperature sensor inside the cavity. Remove mounting screws and gently pull the sensor out. Inspect the sensor body and wiring for signs of melting, charring, or exposed conductors touching metal.
- Test sensor resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance across its terminals. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted or out of specification.
- Check for shorts to chassis: With the sensor unplugged, check continuity from each sensor lead to the oven chassis. There should be no continuity. If there is, inspect the harness for insulation damage and repair or replace the harness.
- Control board evaluation: If sensor and harness are good but F4 persists, the EOC sensor circuit may be shorted internally. Replace the electronic oven control board.
Do not operate the oven with a known sensor or wiring short, as this can cause overheating and damage to the appliance.
