Possible Causes

Food or grease buildup on elements, insulation touching heating element, failing wiring insulation, foreign object on cavity floor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, switch off the oven and ventilate the room. Do not leave the oven unattended.

Inspection:

  • Once cool, inspect the cavity, especially around elements and the base, for spilled food or grease. Clean thoroughly with appropriate oven cleaner.
  • Remove the rear inner panel and check that insulation is not touching the circular element.
  • Inspect wiring near elements for signs of melting or charring; repair or replace as needed.
  • Run the oven empty at a moderate temperature for 15–20 minutes to burn off any remaining residue while monitoring for smoke.
