Possible Causes
Out-of-range oven temperature sensor, Poor sensor connection at control, Faulty EOC calibration circuit, Incorrect sensor type installed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing panels or testing components.
- Verify sensor type: Confirm that the installed sensor matches the original Thermador part number. Using a non-OEM or wrong sensor can cause E4.
- Check resistance at multiple temps: Measure sensor resistance at room temperature and again after gently warming the sensor (e.g., in warm water, dried thoroughly before reconnecting). Resistance should increase smoothly with temperature. Erratic readings indicate a bad sensor.
- Inspect connectors: Clean and reseat the sensor connector at both the sensor and the control board. Lightly tighten any loose terminals.
- Control calibration: Some Thermador models allow temperature offset calibration in the settings menu. If the oven heats but is inaccurate, adjust per the user manual (typically ±35°F).
- If E4 persists: Replace the oven temperature sensor first. If the error remains, replace the EOC.
