Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Melted sensor harness insulation, Failed sensor circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker before removing panels or touching wiring.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the oven's rear access panel. Locate the sensor wiring where it passes through the insulation. Look for melted insulation or wires touching the metal chassis.
- Test sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance at room temperature. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor.
- Check harness for shorts: With the sensor unplugged, check continuity from each harness lead to chassis ground. Any continuity indicates a shorted wire that must be repaired or replaced.
- Replace components as needed: Replace a shorted oven temperature sensor. If the harness is damaged, replace or repair the sensor wiring harness. If both are good, the electronic oven control board may have an internal short and should be replaced.
- Reassemble and test: After repairs, restore power and run a bake cycle, confirming that the F4 code does not return.
