Possible Causes
Failed oven cooling fan motor, Blocked cooling air vents, Faulty high-limit thermostat, Defective fan relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power and allow the oven to cool completely before accessing rear panels.
- Listen for fan operation: When the oven is turned on (before disconnecting power), note whether you hear the internal cooling fan running. Lack of fan noise suggests a fan or relay issue.
- Inspect vents: Check the front and rear ventilation slots for dust, grease, or cabinet obstructions. Clear any blockages to restore airflow.
- Access cooling fan: Remove the rear panel of the range or wall oven to access the oven cooling fan motor. Spin the fan blade by hand; it should turn freely without grinding.
- Test fan motor: With power disconnected, measure resistance across the fan motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also check for continuity through any inline thermal cutoffs.
- Check high-limit thermostat: Locate the high-limit thermostat on the oven's top or rear. Test for continuity at room temperature; an open thermostat will prevent operation and may trigger F8.
- Replace faulty parts: Replace a failed cooling fan motor or high-limit thermostat. If both test good, the electronic oven control board fan relay may be defective and require replacement.
