Possible Causes
Failed bake igniter, No gas supply or closed gas shutoff valve, Faulty gas safety valve, Broken igniter wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off gas at the shutoff valve and disconnect power before servicing. Gas leaks and ignition components can be hazardous.
- Verify gas supply: Ensure the gas shutoff valve behind the range is fully open and other gas appliances in the home are working.
- Observe igniter: With power on and the oven set to bake, look through the bottom panel to see if the bake igniter glows. If it does not glow at all, it is likely faulty.
- Weak igniter check: If the igniter glows but the burner never lights, the igniter may be too weak (low current draw) to open the gas valve. In most cases, replace the igniter.
- Continuity test: With power off, remove the bottom panel, disconnect the igniter, and test for continuity. Replace if open.
- Gas valve testing: If a new igniter does not restore ignition, the oven gas safety valve or wiring may be faulty and should be tested and replaced by a qualified technician.
