Possible Causes

Failed touch control glass, Damaged key membrane, Loose ribbon cable between panel and PCB, Faulty user interface PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control panel.

  • Inspect touch panel surface: Check the Toshiba glass or plastic touch interface for cracks, moisture, or heavy grease buildup. Clean gently with a soft cloth and mild detergent; avoid excessive liquid near edges.
  • Check ribbon cable: Remove the front control panel trim to access the flat ribbon cable. Reseat the cable at both the touch panel and the main PCB, ensuring it is fully inserted and locked.
  • Look for corrosion: If steam has entered the panel, you may see corrosion on the connector pads. Clean carefully with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush.
  • Panel/PCB replacement: If specific keys consistently fail, the touch panel or key membrane is likely defective and must be replaced as a Toshiba assembly. If the entire panel is dead but backlight works, suspect the UI PCB.

Because the control panel is delicate and often glass, handle with care and avoid flexing it. If unsure, have a technician perform the replacement.
