Possible Causes
Food or grease buildup on elements, Spillage on oven base, Failing insulation or wiring overheating, Foreign object left in cavity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If heavy smoke appears, turn off the oven and open windows. Do not leave the oven unattended.
Steps to check:
- Visual inspection: Once cool, inspect the elements, racks, and base for burnt-on food or foil. Remove any foreign objects.
- Deep clean: Use a suitable oven cleaner on the cavity surfaces (avoid spraying directly on elements or sensors). Rinse thoroughly.
- Test run: Run the oven empty at a moderate temperature (e.g., 180°C) for 20–30 minutes to burn off residues, monitoring for smoke.
- Wiring check: If a burning plastic or electrical smell persists, isolate power and inspect wiring and insulation around elements and the control area for overheating.
Warning: If you see melted insulation or charring, stop using the oven and have it inspected professionally.
