Possible Causes

Open or shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD), Damaged sensor harness or connector at control board, Failed electronic oven control (EOC) temperature input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.

Steps to check the temperature sensor:

  • Locate the oven temperature sensor probe inside the oven cavity (usually a thin metal rod at the upper rear wall).
  • Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. On some Viking models, you may need to pull the range out and access the connector from the rear.
  • Unplug the sensor from its harness and measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. A typical Viking RTD sensor should read about 1080–1120 Ω at 70°F (21°C). If it is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace it.
  • Inspect the harness from the sensor to the electronic oven control (EOC) for pinched, burned, or broken wires. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • If the sensor and wiring test good, the EOC (control board) temperature input circuit is likely faulty and the board should be replaced.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable testing resistance or accessing the rear of the oven, have a qualified Viking technician perform these checks and replace the sensor or control board as needed.
