Possible Causes
Open broil element, Loose or burned broil element terminals, Failed broil relay on EOC, High-limit thermostat open in broil circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker. Heating elements can retain heat; allow to cool.
Check the broil element:
- Visually inspect the broil element at the top of the oven cavity for blisters, breaks, or burn marks.
- Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the element forward to access the terminals.
- Disconnect the wires and measure resistance across the element. A typical broil element should read between 10–40 Ω. If open (infinite resistance), replace the broil element.
- Inspect the terminal ends and wiring for heat damage; repair or replace as needed.
- If the element tests good, check continuity through any high-limit thermostat in the broil circuit (often mounted on the rear or top of the oven). Replace if open.
- If all components test good, the broil relay on the EOC may be faulty; replace the control board.
