Possible Causes

Stuck heating relay on EOC, Shorted triac driving element, Faulty temperature sensor reading low, Control software fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Immediate safety: If the oven is heating uncontrollably, turn off the breaker immediately to prevent fire or damage. Do not continue using the oven until repaired.

Diagnostic steps:

  • After the oven cools, test the oven temperature sensor resistance at room temperature. Replace if out of range.
  • Inspect the bake and broil relays on the EOC for signs of overheating or welded contacts (burn marks, discoloration). If a relay is stuck closed, the element may heat even when off.
  • With power disconnected, check for continuity across the element terminals and from each terminal to the control output. If the control output shows continuity when it should be open, replace the EOC.
  • After replacing the faulty component, verify operation with a low-temperature bake and monitor temperature stability.

Warning: A runaway temperature condition is serious. If you are unsure, contact a Viking-authorized technician.
