Possible Causes

Weak or cracked bake igniter, No gas supply or closed gas shutoff valve, Faulty gas safety valve, Ignition circuit fault on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off gas supply and electrical power before removing burner covers or igniters. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and do not operate any electrical switches; contact your gas supplier.

Steps:

  • Verify that the gas shutoff valve to the range is fully open and that other gas appliances in the home are working.
  • Remove the oven bottom panel to expose the bake burner and igniter.
  • Observe the igniter during a bake attempt (with panels reinstalled for safety). A weak, dull orange glow that does not light the burner usually indicates a failing igniter.
  • Disconnect power and test the igniter resistance; a very high or open reading indicates failure. Replace the bake igniter with a Viking-compatible part.
  • If the igniter glows strongly but the burner does not light, test the gas safety valve coil resistance and replace the valve if out of spec.
  • If neither igniter nor valve receive power during a call for heat, the EOC or wiring may be faulty.
