Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck relay on electronic oven control board, Poor airflow around oven causing overheating, Incorrect oven calibration or miswired power supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker immediately if the oven is overheating or will not shut off.
- Allow to cool: Let the oven cool completely. Once cool, restore power and see if the code reappears when starting a bake cycle.
- Check oven sensor resistance: With power OFF, remove the rear panel or access from inside the oven (sensor usually mounted on rear wall). Disconnect the sensor harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~70°F/21°C), Whirlpool sensors should read about 1080–1100 Ω. Replace if reading is far out of range or open/shorted.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the oven control relay may be stuck closed. Replace the electronic oven control board.
