Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Pinched or shorted sensor wiring harness, Moisture intrusion in sensor connector, Shorted sensor input on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before servicing.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the oven temperature sensor from the rear wall. Check for damaged insulation, burn marks, or pinched wires where they pass through the oven liner.
- Resistance test: Measure sensor resistance at room temperature. If it reads very low (near 0 Ω) or significantly below 1000 Ω, the sensor is shorted and must be replaced.
- Check harness for shorts: With the sensor disconnected, check resistance between each sensor wire and chassis ground. Any continuity indicates a short to ground; repair or replace the harness.
- Control board evaluation: If sensor and harness are good but F4 persists, the sensor input circuit on the electronic oven control board may be shorted. Replace the control board.
