Possible Causes
Open bake or broil element, Open relay on control board, Broken element wiring, Thermal fuse open (on some models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before testing elements or fuses.
- Visual inspection: Check the bake and broil elements for visible breaks, blisters, or burn spots. Replace any damaged element.
- Continuity test: Disconnect at least one wire from the element and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical Whirlpool bake element reads 15–40 Ω. Replace if open.
- Check wiring: Inspect wires from the elements to the control board for burns or loose connections. Repair or replace as needed.
- Thermal fuse: On some Whirlpool ovens, an inline thermal fuse protects the elements. Locate it (often on the rear or top of the oven chassis) and test for continuity. Replace if open and investigate cause of overheating.
- Control board: If elements, wiring, and fuse are good, the heating relay on the electronic oven control board may have failed and require replacement.
