Possible Causes
Control lock feature engaged by user, Stuck lock button on keypad, User interface software glitch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal repair is needed for normal control lock operation.
- Unlock controls: Press and hold the Control Lock or Lock keypad (often the "Start" or a padlock-labeled key) for 3–5 seconds until the lock indicator turns off. Refer to the user manual for your specific Whirlpool model.
- Power reset: If the lock will not clear, turn the breaker OFF for 1 minute, then ON, and try unlocking again.
- Keypad issue: If the lock icon remains and keys are unresponsive, the keypad may be faulty. See keypad-related error procedures (F5/F7 codes) and consider replacing the control panel/touchpad assembly.
