How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting elements or wiring.
- Visual check: Inspect the lower bake element for cracks, breaks, or blisters. Any visible damage means it should be replaced.
- Continuity test: Disconnect at least one wire from the bake element and measure resistance. A good Whirlpool bake element typically reads 15–40 Ω. Replace if open.
- Inspect wiring: Pull the range out and remove the rear panel. Check for burned or disconnected wires at the element terminals and control board. Repair or replace damaged wires with high-temperature-rated wire.
- Thermal fuse: Locate any inline thermal fuse on the oven chassis and test for continuity. Replace if open and investigate cause of overheating.
- Control board: If element, wiring, and fuse are good, the bake relay on the electronic oven control board may be faulty and require replacement.
