Possible Causes

Shorted touchpad membrane, Failed electronic oven control board, Moisture or grease contamination on control, Loose or damaged ribbon cable between keypad and control

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the oven off at the breaker and allow it to sit for at least 5 minutes before touching any wiring. Do not work on live circuits.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Switch the range/oven breaker OFF for 5–10 minutes, then turn it back ON. If F1 clears and does not return, it may have been a temporary glitch.
  • Step 2 – Check for stuck keys: With power OFF, gently press each button on the control panel several times. Look for any key that feels stuck, does not click, or remains depressed. Clean around the buttons with a slightly damp cloth (no spray directly on panel).
  • Step 3 – Inspect keypad ribbon: Remove the front control panel cover (usually by removing screws from the back of the control panel). Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Reseat it: pull it out gently and push it back in straight and fully. Look for corrosion or burn marks.
  • Step 4 – Dry out moisture: If you see condensation or grease on or around the control, let the oven sit with power off and door open for several hours to dry. Avoid using the self-clean cycle if the control is already acting up.
  • Step 5 – Replace faulty part: If F1 returns immediately after power-up or after reseating the ribbon, the keypad or the electronic oven control is likely defective. On many Zline models, the keypad and display are integrated into the control board assembly. Replace the control board assembly following the service manual or have a technician perform the repair.

When to stop: If you smell burning electronics, see scorch marks, or the breaker trips repeatedly, stop and contact a qualified technician.
