Possible Causes
Shorted touchpad membrane, Moisture or cleaning fluid inside keypad, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Faulty control panel assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing the control panel.
- Step 1 – Inspect for moisture: If the error appeared after heavy cleaning or a spill, leave power off and allow the control panel to dry for several hours. Do not spray cleaners directly on the panel in the future.
- Step 2 – Check keypad operation: Restore power briefly and test each button. If some keys do not respond or trigger other functions, the keypad is likely failing.
- Step 3 – Access keypad ribbon: Remove screws securing the control panel and gently pull it forward. Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board. Reseat it and inspect for cracks or corrosion.
- Step 4 – Replace keypad/control panel: If F7 persists, replace the keypad or the entire control panel assembly (on many Zline models, the keypad and display are integrated). Transfer any mounting hardware from the old panel to the new one.
Warning: Do not attempt to peel apart or repair the membrane keypad; it is not serviceable.
