Possible Causes
Open bake element, Open broil element, Tripped high-limit thermostat, Failed relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting elements or internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Try both bake and broil: Set the oven to bake, then to broil. If neither heats, suspect power supply, high-limit thermostat, or control board. If one works and the other does not, suspect that specific element or its circuit.
- Step 2 – Visual check of elements: Inspect the bake element (bottom) and broil element (top) for breaks, blisters, or burn marks. A visibly broken element must be replaced.
- Step 3 – Test elements: With power OFF, remove at least one wire from each element and measure resistance. A typical element will show finite resistance (e.g., 15–40 Ω). An open reading indicates a bad element.
- Step 4 – Check high-limit thermostat: Access the rear of the oven and locate the high-limit thermostat (thermal cutoff) mounted on the oven cavity. Test for continuity; if open, replace it.
- Step 5 – Control board and relays: If elements and thermostat are good, the control board may not be sending power to the elements. Inspect the board for burnt relays and replace the control board if necessary.
Warning: Do not bypass safety thermostats; they protect against overheating and fire.
