Possible Causes
Auger motor jammed by pellets, Auger shaft seized with tar and dust, Auger motor wiring loose, Failed auger motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before working near the auger or hopper. Keep fingers clear of the auger flighting.
- Step 1 – Confirm auger not turning: Remove grates and drip tray, look into the fire pot during startup (with grill plugged in). If no pellets drop after several minutes and ErA appears, the auger is not feeding.
- Step 2 – Empty hopper: Scoop pellets out of the hopper into a clean container. Check for swollen or crumbly pellets indicating moisture damage.
- Step 3 – Check for auger jam: With the grill unplugged, remove the auger motor cover on the side or bottom of the hopper. Try to rotate the auger shaft by hand or with pliers. If it will not turn, there is likely a jam of compacted pellets or tar.
- Step 4 – Clear auger: Remove the auger motor mounting bolts and slide the motor off the shaft. Pull the auger flighting out of the tube from the hopper side. Scrape off built‑up resin and pellet dust, then vacuum the tube clean.
- Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger and motor, ensuring the motor coupler is fully engaged. Plug in the grill and run a prime or startup cycle to verify pellets feed smoothly. If the motor hums but does not turn, replace the ASMOKE auger motor.
