Possible Causes

Open or shorted RTD sensor, Damaged probe wiring, Probe connector loose at controller, Probe contaminated with heavy grease and carbon

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before handling wiring or the controller.

  • Step 1 – Inspect probe in cook chamber: Locate the ASMOKE temperature probe on the side wall. Clean off heavy grease buildup with a damp cloth once the grill is cool. Do not use abrasive tools that can damage the probe.
  • Step 2 – Check wiring: Follow the probe wire into the body of the grill. Look for cuts, melted spots, or areas where the wire is pinched by sheet metal. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Step 3 – Verify connector at controller: Remove the controller and ensure the RTD sensor plug is firmly seated. Reseat the connector several times to wipe oxidation from the contacts.
  • Step 4 – Test resistance (advanced): With the grill unplugged, disconnect the RTD from the controller and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, most ASMOKE RTD sensors will read in the hundreds of ohms (consult your model’s spec). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad probe.
  • Step 5 – Replace probe: If the probe is physically damaged or tests bad, install a new ASMOKE temperature probe / RTD sensor compatible with your model.
