Possible Causes

Grease fire in cook chamber, Temperature probe shorted or touching metal, Controller high‑temp safety trip, Excessive pellet feed causing runaway fire

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ASMOKE grill from power and keep the lid closed for at least 30 minutes to smother any possible grease fire. Do not spray water inside the grill.

  • Step 1 – Inspect for grease fire evidence: After the unit has completely cooled, open the lid and check for heavy soot, warped drip tray, or burned grease. Clean out all ash and grease from the fire pot, drip tray, and grease channel.
  • Step 2 – Check temperature probe (RTD sensor): Locate the internal temperature probe on the side wall of the cook chamber. Make sure it is not bent into contact with the grill body or grates. If the probe sheath is cracked, heavily corroded, or the wire insulation is damaged, replace the ASMOKE temperature probe / RTD sensor.
  • Step 3 – Inspect controller wiring: Remove the controller mounting screws and gently pull the controller forward. Verify the RTD sensor plug is fully seated and not shorted against the metal housing. Look for melted or pinched wires.
  • Step 4 – Restart correctly: With the grill clean and cool, plug it back in. Turn the dial to Shutdown (if available) then back to Smoke or the lowest temperature setting. Allow the startup cycle to complete and monitor temperature. If ErH reappears quickly, the controller or probe is likely faulty.
  • Step 5 – Replace suspect parts: If the grill overheats or throws ErH repeatedly at normal setpoints, replace the temperature probe / RTD sensor first. If the issue persists, replace the ASMOKE digital controller.
