Possible Causes
Failed hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connector at controller, Blown igniter fuse (if equipped), Damaged igniter wiring insulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow all components to cool before touching the fire pot or igniter.
- Step 1 – Visual check of igniter: Remove grates and drip tray. Locate the igniter rod in the bottom of the fire pot. Look for cracks, heavy corrosion, or broken ceramic insulator.
- Step 2 – Check wiring: Trace the igniter wires from the fire pot to the controller. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not burned or pinched.
- Step 3 – Test igniter operation: With the fire pot exposed, plug in the grill and start it on Smoke. After 3–5 minutes, you should see the igniter glow red. If not, unplug the grill and proceed.
- Step 4 – Electrical test (optional): Using a multimeter, check continuity across the igniter leads. An open circuit indicates a failed igniter.
- Step 5 – Replace igniter: Remove the retaining screw or bracket holding the igniter in place. Slide the old igniter out and install a new ASMOKE hot rod igniter, routing the wires away from direct flame. Reconnect to the controller and test startup again.
