Possible Causes

Loose controller harness connections, Failed temperature probe, Internal controller failure, Shorted wiring to RTD or fans

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before removing the controller or accessing wiring.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the grill for 5 minutes to discharge the controller. Plug back in and see if the error clears.
  • Step 2 – Inspect controller connections: Remove the screws holding the ASMOKE controller. Gently pull it out and verify all connectors (auger, fan, igniter, RTD sensor, power) are fully seated and not corroded or burned.
  • Step 3 – Check RTD sensor wiring: Follow the temperature probe wire from the cook chamber into the controller. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinch points. Repair any damaged sections or replace the temperature probe / RTD sensor.
  • Step 4 – Test with probe disconnected: If possible, disconnect the RTD sensor from the controller and power up. Some ASMOKE controllers will show a different error if the probe is open; if the generic Err changes, the probe is suspect.
  • Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If all external components test good and wiring is intact, the ASMOKE digital controller is likely defective and should be replaced with the correct model for your grill.
