Possible Causes

RTD sensor out of calibration, Probe wire partially broken, Moisture intrusion in probe, Controller ADC fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before handling the probe wiring or controller.

  • Step 1 – Compare with external thermometer: Place a reliable oven thermometer or digital probe near the ASMOKE RTD sensor. Run the grill at a known setpoint (e.g., 250°F) and compare readings.
  • Step 2 – Inspect probe and wiring: Clean the probe surface, check for kinks or crushed sections in the cable, and ensure the grommet where it enters the body is intact.
  • Step 3 – Reseat connector: Remove the controller and unplug/replug the RTD connector several times to improve contact.
  • Step 4 – Replace RTD sensor: If the reading is consistently off by a large margin or jumps erratically, install a new ASMOKE temperature probe / RTD sensor.
  • Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If a new probe does not correct the issue, the digital controller may have a faulty input circuit and should be replaced.
