Possible Causes

Failed hot rod igniter, Igniter not positioned correctly in fire pot, Combustion fan not running, Very wet pellets

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill off, unplug it, and allow pellets in the fire pot to cool before handling.

  • Step 1 – Clean out excess pellets: Scoop or vacuum pellets and ash from the fire pot.
  • Step 2 – Check igniter position: The ASMOKE igniter tip should protrude slightly into the fire pot. If it has slipped back, loosen the retaining screw and reposition it.
  • Step 3 – Test igniter heat: With the fire pot exposed, plug in the grill and start it. After 3–5 minutes, verify the igniter glows red. If not, replace the hot rod igniter.
  • Step 4 – Verify fan operation: Ensure the combustion fan is running during startup. Without airflow, pellets may smolder but not ignite.
  • Step 5 – Use dry pellets: Replace any suspect pellets with fresh, dry pellets and retry startup.
