Possible Causes

Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connection at control board, Blown igniter fuse on control board, Damaged igniter wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure there are no hot embers in the fire pot.

  • Access the fire pot: Remove cooking grates, heat diffuser, and drip tray to expose the fire pot and igniter area.
  • Visual check of igniter: Look into the fire pot for the igniter tip. If it is cracked, heavily corroded, or missing, it must be replaced.
  • Check wiring: From the underside or side service panel, locate the igniter wires going to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not burned or pinched.
  • Test igniter (optional): With the igniter disconnected and removed, measure resistance across its leads. An open circuit indicates a failed hot rod.
  • Replace igniter: Remove the mounting screw or bracket holding the igniter in the fire pot tube. Slide out the old igniter and install a new Broil King Crown Pellet hot rod igniter, ensuring the tip sits correctly in the fire pot opening.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall internal components, reconnect power, and run a startup. If Er3 persists with a new igniter, the control board or internal fuse may be faulty and should be serviced.
