Possible Causes
Pellet hopper empty, Wet or poor-quality pellets, Blocked fire pot with ash, Weak combustion fan airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool. Ensure there are no active embers before cleaning.
- Check pellet level and quality: Open the hopper and verify it has enough pellets. Replace any damp, swollen, or crumbly pellets with fresh, dry hardwood pellets.
- Clean the fire pot: Remove grates, diffuser, and drip tray. Vacuum or scoop out ash and clinkers from the fire pot and surrounding area. A clogged fire pot can smother the flame.
- Inspect combustion fan: From the side or bottom access panel, locate the combustion (exhaust) fan. Spin the fan blades by hand (with power disconnected) to ensure they move freely and are not obstructed by ash or debris.
- Check air inlets: Make sure the air intake holes around the fire pot and under the grill are not blocked by grease, foil, or debris.
- Restart correctly: Reassemble internal parts, plug in the grill, and follow the manufacturer’s startup procedure. Avoid opening the lid excessively during ignition, as this can cool the fire.
- Further diagnosis: If Er5 continues, the combustion fan or control board timing may be faulty and may require replacement.
