Possible Causes
Failed auger motor, Jammed auger flight with pellets or foreign object, Loose auger motor connector at control board, Seized auger bearing in auger tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and empty the hopper before working on the auger system.
- Check for auger jam: Remove pellets from the hopper. Access the auger by removing the rear or side panel as per the manual. Try to rotate the auger shaft by hand (with power off). If it will not move, it is likely jammed.
- Clear the auger: Remove the auger motor mounting bolts and slide the motor off the shaft. Pull the auger out of the tube. Clean out compacted pellets, sawdust, or foreign objects. Lightly sand any rust and wipe the tube clean.
- Inspect auger motor: With the auger removed, check that the motor shaft turns freely by hand. If it is stiff, noisy, or seized, replace the auger motor.
- Check wiring: Ensure the auger motor connector is firmly plugged into the control board and that wires are not burned or pinched.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger into the tube, remount the motor, refill the hopper with dry pellets, and test operation. If Er6 persists, the control board output may be defective.
