Possible Causes
Weak or failed hot rod igniter, Excessive ash in fire pot, Poor airflow from combustion fan, Wet pellets in fire pot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure there are no active embers before servicing.
- Clean fire pot: Remove internal components and thoroughly clean ash and debris from the fire pot. A clean pot is essential for reliable ignition.
- Check pellet quality: Remove any damp or swollen pellets from the fire pot and hopper. Refill with fresh, dry pellets.
- Inspect igniter: Look at the igniter tip in the fire pot. If it is recessed too far, damaged, or heavily corroded, replace the hot rod igniter.
- Verify fan operation: During startup (with grill reassembled), listen for the combustion fan. Weak airflow can prevent ignition; clean or replace the fan if needed.
- Manual test: If the igniter is suspect, you can attempt a manual light using a small amount of starter gel and a long lighter (following manufacturer guidelines), but this is a temporary workaround. Replace the igniter for a permanent fix.
