Possible Causes
Empty pellet hopper, Pellet bridge preventing pellets from dropping, Wet or swollen pellets, Auger jam in auger tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the grill is off and cool before working around the hopper and auger.
- Check hopper level: Open the hopper lid and verify there are enough pellets. Fill with fresh, dry hardwood pellets if low.
- Break pellet bridges: Use a clean, dry tool or your hand to stir pellets in the hopper. Pellets can form a bridge and stop feeding even when the hopper appears partially full.
- Inspect pellet condition: Remove a handful of pellets. If they crumble easily or appear swollen, they are moisture-damaged and should be discarded. Empty and vacuum the hopper, then refill with dry pellets.
- Check auger operation: With the hopper mostly empty, start the grill and look for pellet movement into the auger throat. If no movement occurs, the auger may be jammed and will need to be cleared.
- Clear auger jam if needed: Unplug the grill, remove pellets, access the auger tube, and follow auger jam clearing steps (removing motor and auger, cleaning tube).
