Possible Causes
Failed hot rod igniter, Wet pellets, Excessive ash in fire pot, Weak combustion fan airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure there are no active embers. Do not attempt repeated starts with a fire pot full of pellets.
- Empty fire pot: Remove grates and drip tray, then scoop or vacuum out pellets and ash from the fire pot.
- Check pellet quality: Discard any damp or swollen pellets from the hopper and fire pot. Refill with fresh, dry pellets.
- Inspect igniter: Look at the igniter tip in the fire pot. If it does not glow red during startup (viewed carefully with the lid open briefly), it is likely failed and should be replaced.
- Verify fan operation: Listen for the combustion fan during startup. If airflow is weak or absent, clean or replace the fan.
- Replace igniter: If the igniter does not heat, install a new Broil King Crown Pellet hot rod igniter following manufacturer instructions.
