Possible Causes

Protective oils and coatings on metal parts, Residual packaging materials left inside, High-temperature paint curing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Operate the initial burn-off with no food on the grill and in a well-ventilated outdoor area.

  • Remove all packaging: Ensure all plastic, cardboard, and manuals are removed from inside the grill and hopper.
  • Perform burn-off: Run the grill at a medium-high temperature for 30–60 minutes with the lid closed to burn off residues.
  • Ventilate: Stand upwind and keep people and pets away during burn-off.
  • Persistent odor: If strong chemical smells persist after several burn-offs, inspect for any non-OEM materials inside or contact Broil King support.
