Possible Causes

Pellets bridged in hopper, Wet or poor-quality pellets, Auger motor intermittent, Excessive ash buildup in firepot smothering flame

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill off and unplug it. Allow it to cool before servicing.

  • Check pellet level and quality: Open the hopper and verify there are enough pellets. Stir the pellets to break up any bridging. Remove any sawdust or clumped, damp pellets and refill with fresh, dry pellets.
  • Clean firepot: Access the firepot and remove ash and unburned pellets. Ensure all air holes are clear to allow proper combustion.
  • Inspect auger operation: With the grill reassembled, plug it in and start a cycle with the firepot empty. Observe whether pellets are consistently dropping into the firepot. If feed is intermittent or stops, the auger motor or auger shaft may be binding.
  • Check combustion fan: Confirm the combustion fan runs steadily during operation. Weak or no airflow can cause flame-out.
  • Restart and monitor: After cleaning and verifying pellet feed, restart the grill and monitor for stable flame and temperature. If Er5 recurs, further diagnosis of the auger motor and control board is required.
