Possible Causes
Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter wiring, Failed igniter relay on control board, Excessive ash insulating pellets from igniter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool. Remove grates and heat diffuser to access the firepot.
- Clean firepot: Remove ash and unburned pellets so the igniter tip is exposed and close to the pellet bed during startup.
- Inspect igniter: Visually inspect the igniter element in the firepot for cracks, breaks, or heavy corrosion.
- Check wiring: Trace the igniter wires back to the control board. Ensure the connector is secure and wires are not burned or pinched.
- Test igniter: With the igniter disconnected and using a multimeter, measure resistance across the igniter leads. An open circuit indicates a failed igniter.
- Replace igniter: If failed, install a new Broil King-compatible hot rod igniter, routing wires away from high heat areas.
- Control board check: If a known-good igniter does not receive power during startup, the control board igniter circuit may be defective and require replacement.
