Possible Causes

Jammed auger with swollen pellets, Failed auger motor, Sheared auger motor pin, Loose auger wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and empty the hopper before working on the auger. Wear gloves; metal edges can be sharp.

  • Check for jam: Remove pellets from the hopper. Look down into the auger throat for clumped or swollen pellets. Use a wooden dowel to gently break up visible jams.
  • Test auger motor: With the hopper mostly empty, plug the grill back in and start it. Observe if the auger shaft turns. If it does not move or just clicks, unplug and proceed.
  • Access auger assembly: Remove the hopper cover and side panels as needed. Disconnect the auger motor wiring harness.
  • Inspect shear pin and shaft: Check the small pin or set screw connecting the motor to the auger shaft. Replace if broken or missing.
  • Clear full jam: Remove the auger motor and slide the auger shaft out of the tube. Scrape out compacted pellets and vacuum the tube clean. Reassemble and test.
  • Replace motor if failed: If the auger shaft spins freely by hand but the motor will not run when powered, replace the auger motor with a Camp Chef-compatible unit.
