Possible Causes
Loose control board harness connection, Failed main control board, Shorted temperature probe, Low or unstable AC power supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill from power before removing any panels. Work only when the grill is completely cool.
- Power reset: Turn the power switch OFF, unplug the grill for 5 minutes, then plug back in and turn ON. Check if the ERR clears.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the controller mounting screws and gently pull the control panel forward. Verify all wire harness plugs are fully seated on the main control board and not burnt or corroded.
- Check temperature probe: Inspect the RTD/thermocouple probe inside the cook chamber. Make sure its wire is not cut, pinched, or touching the hot firepot. Reseat its connector on the control board.
- Test outlet: Plug the grill into a different, known-good outlet (no long extension cords). Low voltage or bad GFCI outlets can cause ERR.
- If ERR persists: The main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced with a compatible Camp Chef controller. Label and transfer each connector one at a time to the new board.
