Possible Causes

Insufficient pellet feed, Wet or poor-quality pellets, Blocked firepot, Failed igniter rod

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill OFF and unplug it. Allow it to cool completely before working near the firepot.

  • Empty and clean firepot: Remove grates and drip tray. Vacuum out ash from the firepot and surrounding area. Ensure the firepot holes are not clogged.
  • Check pellets: Inspect pellets in the hopper. Discard any that are swollen, crumbly, or damp. Refill with fresh, high-quality hardwood pellets.
  • Verify auger feed: Turn the grill back on and start an ignition cycle with the grates removed. Confirm that pellets are dropping into the firepot at regular intervals. If not, see auger-related faults.
  • Check igniter rod: During startup, look for smoke and feel for heat near the firepot (without touching the igniter). If pellets feed but do not ignite, the igniter rod may be bad.
  • Restart properly: After cleaning and verifying pellets, perform a full startup cycle per the Camp Chef manual. Do not open the lid excessively during ignition.
