Possible Causes
Burned-out igniter rod, Loose igniter wiring, Excessive ash in firepot, Low line voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow all components to cool fully before inspection.
- Clean firepot: Remove grates and drip tray. Vacuum all ash from the firepot so air and heat can circulate properly.
- Check igniter position: The igniter rod tip should protrude slightly into the firepot holes. If it is recessed or bent away, adjust or reseat it.
- Inspect wiring: Access the underside of the firepot and trace the igniter wires back to the control board. Ensure connectors are tight and insulation is not burned.
- Test for heat: With grates removed, plug in the grill and start an ignition cycle. After 2–3 minutes, carefully feel near (not on) the igniter area for heat and look for a red glow. If there is no heat, the igniter is likely bad.
- Replace igniter rod: Unplug the grill, remove the old igniter from the firepot bracket, disconnect its wires, and install a new Camp Chef igniter rod. Route wires away from hot surfaces and moving parts.
